Needlework Hints & Tips
1) Make a color copy of your chart before beginning a project. Paper charts and diagrams can become soiled and torn during a large project. By making a paper copy of the chart beforehand, you are assured of not losing important information.
2) Keep several different colored highlighters in your project bag to mark stitches completed on the copy of your chart (see above) as you work. An inexpensive clip board helps make this easier, too.
3) Take special care to make sure the stitches stay smooth and uniform. Watch the back of your project as you go along for knots that can keep it from laying smoothly when finished. Plus, keep all similar stitches going in the same direction. For example: cross stitch is made up of two stitches overlapping, and should always be completed with the top stitch going in the same direction throughout the project.
4) Wash your hands with soap and water before picking up your project each time. Oils on your hands transfer to fabric, picking up dirt and soiling the fabric. What can you do if your project does become soiled? The best advice is to follow the manufacturer's instructions for gently washing or cleaning each piece when completed.
